Actor and director Edward Allen Harris was born in the United States on November 28, 1950.
He received praise from critics and nominations for Academy Awards for his roles in The Truman Show (1998), Pollock (2000), The Hours (2002), Apollo 13 (1995), and The Truman Show.
Harris is well-known for his work on television, including Miles Roby in the miniseries Empire Falls (2005) and US Senator John McCain in the television film Game Change (2012), the latter of which won him the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries, or Television Film. For his role as the Man in Black in the HBO science fiction Western series Westworld (2016–2022), for which he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, he presently stars.
Harris started his career performing on stage. He appeared as an FBI agent in Thomas Rickman’s world premiere play Baalam in 1976 at the Pasadena Repertory Theatre housed in the venerable The Hotel Carver. He then performed Lot in the West Coast premiere of Tennessee Williams’ play Kingdom of Earth at the Pasadena Repertory Theatre in 1976.
Harris has two siblings named Paul and Robert Haris.
